Scaffolding athlete learning in preparation for competition: what matters

The purpose of this study is to advance the notion scaffolding in coaching as a socio-pedagogic activity through exploring “doing” during competition preparation period. Using method critical companionship, analysis draws on storied representation coach’s practice. Findings conceptualise transformative process continuous building and enacting both coach athlete’s agentic capabilities enhance learning. Within framework, had understand athlete read cultural context for occur within an appropriately constructed zone proximal development (ZPD). This involved ZPD that developed agency learner while maintaining respect security, leading enhancement pedagogical social agency. These findings merging social, providing framework learning development.
